Janaki Temple Darshan Tour

Janakpur is more commonly called Janakpurdham, & is a city in Nepal which is situated in the Tarai at 300m from sea level. Janakpurdham is the administrative headquarters of the Dhanusa District of Janakpur Zone and has a population of approximately 85,000. The city is located about 400 km south-east of Kathmandu valley, 20 km from the Indian border at 26° 42′ 44″ N, 085° 55′ 18″ E. Janakpurdham has a major tourists industry due to its significance in Hindu religion.

In Janakpur, around Janaki temple, there is generally more flow of Indian tourists than the Nepalese themselves. The number of Nepalese visiting to Janaki temple is one hundred thousand whereas the number of Indians visiting is approximately five hundred thousand. The temple is situated right in the middle of Janakpur bazaar. The temple looks similar to that of the palace itself. Inside the temple, there are many sculptures and images of gods and goddesses such as: Guru Vashistha, Sadananda, Sunayna, Ram, Laxman, Bharat, Shatrughan, Sita, Janak and so on. The temple Tikamgadh was built by an Indian queen Bhanu Brish Kumari in 1968 B.S.

Janaki temple is also called ‘Naulakhe Temple’ as the cost was nine hundred thousand rupees to build the structure. It is believed that when the queen came to the temple she gave birth to a baby boy so she constructed the temple to make it a larger and a better one. It is also believed that King Janak found Goddess Sita in the same place where the temple is situated currently. Sita was found beneath a piece of land while the King was digging with a golden plough. There is also a marriage area in Janaki Temple. The temple also has a free entrance zone for visitors. In the area for marriage it is said that Lord Ram and Goddess Sita got married in this particular area. We can see sculptures of family members of Lord Ram and Goddess Sita. This is why Janakpur is known for the Ram and Janaki Temple.

Day 1: Arrive Kathmandu at the Tribhuwan International Airport

Arrival Kathmandu at the Tribhuwan  International Airport where you will find our representative awaiting your arrival with our office vehicle to pick you up and drop you to your designated hotel. Your first overnight in the valley of temples.

Day 2: Morning at Pashupatinath temple Darsan / Budhanilkanta & Changunarayan

After breakfast, we head out for a Morning tour of Pashupatinath temple for worship and then begin a scenic drive to Budhanilkantha after lunch. Budhanilkantha is famous for its Temple which is located at the base of Shivapuri Hill within the Kathmandu valley on the northern side. It is also known as the mystical Budhanilkantha temple or ‘Narayanthan’ temple. Budhanilkantha literally means “Old Blue Throat”. The temple is only nine kilometers away from the ancient valley of Kathmandu. From hereon we drive down to the scenic Changunarayan temple, do our worship with puja & holy rituals and return to Kathmandu for an overnight at our hotel

Day 3: Drive to Janakpur

After breakfast, we set out for a 12 hour scenic drive through the tarai region to Janakpur. On reaching Janakpur, we rest & refresh with some snacks at our hotel and venture out for a stroll in the evening. Overnight at our hotel in Janakpur

Day 4: Morning Janaki temple visit and transfer to Dhanusa Dham 

After breakfast in the morning, we go for a visit to the Ram janaki temple for puja & different holy rituals. This also includes visiting the well known rama mandir. It is also a great experience to observe the unique mithila culture of this famous city. Situated 18 km north-east of Janakpurdham, we go on to visit Dhanushadham, which, according to mythical legends, is believed to be the place where the broken remains of the divine Shiva bow fell after Ram broke it to obtain Sita’s hand in marriage. After this, we return back to our hotel for the night.

Day 5: Drive back to Kathmandu

After breakfast, we cruise back to Kathmandu after our rendezvous with the gods. We reach our hotel, refresh & relax and after being well rested, we set out for some shopping. Overnight at your hotel

Day 6: Final departure for your connecting flight home sweet home
