Tour Details

This is a relatively new trekking route in Nepal located between famous Langtang and Ganesh Himal, a region culturally-rich with some of the best ecosystems in the world and well grounded in Tibetan tradition; this is where the ‘Tamang Heritage Trail’ speaks of itself.

Sometimes, Mother Nature enjoys showing herself off, and this is one area where she tantalizingly does it best. This is an easy going trek through chocolate box villages, terraced fields, and peaceful valleys where you will encounter a minimum number of trekkers. Hum or whistle your favorite country songs as you hike the paths while enjoying stunning mountain vistas, the natural hot springs at Tatopani, and the exceptional architecture of Tamang village homes. Meet this friendly community and learn of their ancient traditions, inherited from mystical Tibet, you’ll be amazed with the stories you hear. Towards the end of the journey, we relish our home-stay experiences in Briddim with time to relax and discover more about the local traditions of this region. Buddhist influences hereabouts promote respect for nature that is so rarely found elsewhere. Walking ‘Unique trails through Unique Tamang Heritage Country’ will give you memories never to be forgotten.

Detail Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu

Our office representative will be at the airport awaiting your arrival with our office vehicle to pick you up and transfer you to your designated hotel. After refreshing yourself, our tour executive will give you an orientation on your program. After this you are free to get familiar with your surroundings, this will help you to localize. Have supper and then get set for your first overnight in the valley of temples and cows, probably the most on earth.

Day 2: Free at your own leisure

After your first night in Kathmandu, you will be well informed on arrival about what to do in your next free day.

The choice is yours: either you can stroll around the nearby market on your own or you can opt for a half/full day guided sightseeing tour in Kathmandu at places of interest. The cost for this extra tour is not added in the trek cost and you have to pay extra depending on the places you choose to visit. This extra tour gives you deep insights into Nepal’s iconic monuments that have been recognized by UNESCO as world heritage sites.  Sansui Treks will give you an orientation on your program & you will also get the opportunity to ask us any questions you may have regarding our upcoming adventure. When this is done, you might find time to shop around the city in the evening time if you need any gears for the trek. Overnight at your hotel

Day 3: Kathmandu to Syabrubesi (1550m) via Trisuli Bazaar (540m) – Nuwakot

This takes about eight hours. We stay overnight at a hotel in Syabrubesi. We then head north out of Kathmandu driving through scenic foothills and ridgeline vistas to Syabru Besi passing through Dhunche. While passing along the road at the bank of Trishuli River we get a glimpse of Ganesh Himal, terraces and lovely green hills. As we pass through Dhunche we seem to feel as if we are heading towards some deep inland. At the same time, we also notice that the road after Betrawati is roughshod and still under construction. We bunk out at Syabru for the night

Day 4: Trek Syabrubesi to Gatlang (2200m)

From Syabrubesi we climb up to a view point with views of Ganesh Himal, the Gosaikunda range and the Goljang valley. It’s a one hour descent to the Goljang valley. Another 3 hours hiking from Goljang brings us to Gatlang, an amiable Tamang village. Overnight at the community lodge

Day 5: Gatlang to Tatopani (2607m)

This is one of the lengthiest days of the trek, beginning with a descent to Thangbuchet (near Chilime village) by the Bhotekoshi River, and will take approximately 7 hours. After lunch we get on the trail which ascends up and across an airy suspension bridge. The ascent continues until we get to Tatopani which means ‘hot water’, we can enjoy with a dip at the healthy natural hot springs in the lap of the mountains. Locals believe that the waters have a healing effect on the body. Dinner and overnight stay at a local Teahouse Lodge

Day 6: Tatopani to Thuman (2400m)

This we reckon will take about 6 hours at a trot. We climb up to Brimdang village where we haul up for lunch.
After lunch the trek continues ascending to Nagthali Danda at 3300m. The trek continues down to Thuman, a Tibetan influenced Tamang village with friendly people who love to sing and dance. Overnight at a local teahouse

Day 7: Thuman to Briddim (2345m)

This should take about 6 hours overall. The morning hike is along a flat section which then descends to Timure along the old trade route to Tibet, just a 3 hour walk away from here. The trail continues to Briddim which is another Tibetan influenced Tamang village. We will enjoy a traditional home-stay at Briddim where lodging and meals are provided at individual houses on a rotational basis. Visiting trekking guests can also enjoy the local cultural practices with the host family and go on village walks to observe the traditions and customs of the people. We will have a nice interesting time at this particular village.

Day 8: Briddim to Syabrubesi

After a leisurely breakfast, we trek down to Syabrubesi which is just a 3 hours walk from Briddim. After enjoying lunch, we rest and the second part of the day is free for us to stroll around this commercial village. Dinner and overnight at Syabrubesi

Day 9: Syabrubesi to Kathmandu

After an early breakfast, we cruise down to Kathmandu (7 hrs) and the rest of the afternoon and evening is free to do what you need to do most. Probably go out for some last minute shopping or send a few postcards home to the loved ones telling them of your experiences. Overnight at your hotel in Kathmandu

Day 10: Departure for that lovely place we call ‘home’’ – farewell friends!!

Depending on your flight time, if there’s enough, you can do sightseeing or shopping before transfer to the airport in time for your international flight or to your next destination in Nepal or for home.

Note: The Tamang Heritage trek can be combined with the Langtang and Gosaikunda treks for a very diverse and challenging trekking experience with up to 17 days trekking on blitzing trails that could help you discover yourself.

Please note: This Itinerary can be adapted according to your requirements and the number of days can be designed to match your time frame, anyway you want it.

Additional Note: This program is subject to change due to unpredictable weather or any unforeseen circumstances.

Tour Information

Accommodation

‘TH’ [Teahouse Lodge] is a term used for sleeping in teahouse lodges on the trails. These teahouses are pretty basic but provide all the comforts that you would expect when hiking in remote conditions, they are cosy and warm – you’d like the homely environment. We crash out in single rooms wherever available, but often times we sometimes have to adapt to sleeping out in dormitory type rooms for a night. Generally, it’s just a bed with a pillow and blankets. It’s a matter of choice, if you want, you bring your own ‘Air pillow’ and freak out anyways, and this is adventure in the wild…the rougher it gets the better. We accommodate our trek groups in local lodges available each day. Our porters hike ahead of us to book the required rooms for the group (rooms cannot be booked in advance). Please note, that some of them are very basic and a spirit of adventure is the call of the day. It is cheaper to stay in lodges rather than organizing a camping trek. We have a pool of hotels in Kathmandu under 3 Star categories which we provide to clients in connection with this itinerary, unless it is mentioned otherwise or clients have a special choice. You can check on the description of such hotels through our website. Accommodation is never a problem, the choice exclusively yours.

Dining

At ‘Everest Nepal’ – its zero tolerance on cutting of cost when it comes down to feeding our trekking guests, because we know how tough it is on the trails; we ensure that the lodges provide three tasty, bountiful and nutritious meals daily with a variety of local and Western dishes. To start the day, breakfast is ‘king size’ [the first meal of the day] consisting of a choice of porridge, muesli and cereals followed by omelet, fried or scrambled eggs with chapattis or bread. Lunch is generally a selection of salad, cooked vegetable dishes, pasta and traditional breads.

After a lengthy gritty day on the trail, dinner is a hearty 3 course meal – soup, followed by a variety of vegetables, meat, rice and pasta dishes completed with a simple dessert. Don’t be surprised if the delectable ‘apple pie’ lands on your plate, it’s literally ‘yummy’’, even better than the ones you come across in Thamel. Tea, coffee and hot chocolate are also provided at all meals. We use as much fresh produce as possible and special diets are regularly catered for. The local trek leaders are able to maintain very tight controls on health and hygiene in the kitchen with respect to general cleanliness and food preparation and also within the group with respect to personal hygiene.

Travel Date

The best time to visit for a trip of this kind would be in the Spring and Autumn.  It is wonderful during this time of the year when an overall beauties of the landscapes found in these trips are so distinct & stunning, due to clear weather pattern & sunny blue skies. Our program could be changed to accommodate individual group choices and preferences in order to give you proper holidays that become signature ventures for a lifetime.
